In order to maintain good posture during long school hours it is very important to choose a school desk. Any desk and any chair should be chosen depending on the stature of the child and be placed in such a way as to promote the correct posture. This will create conditions for health, good mood and less fatigue.

In fact, there are no many rules and it is not very difficult to follow them. Look at the picture, please. Let us consider in detail how to choose a desk and chair and how their sizes depend on the child's stature and how they affect each other.

What should be the chair?

The height of the chair should be such that the feet are completely rest on the floor, and the angle between the shin and thigh was equal to or slightly more than 90 degrees. Seat depth should be between 2/3 to 3/4 of the length of the thigh. It is a good idea that the shape of the seat corresponds to the shape of buttocks and thighs. The back of the chair should be comfortable and have a bend for the waist.

What should be the desk?

Surface of the desk should have a slope of approximately 15 degrees. This helps to create favorable conditions for eyes when reading and writing at the desk. Desired desk height can be determined in the following way. Let your child sit on the chair and hang his arms down. To determine the correct desk height check the following condition: the edge nearest to the child must be above the elbow level for 5 - 6 cm. We remind that at the same time the arms should be freely lowered down.

Mutual position of the desk and the chair

The chair must be pushed under the desk so that a distance between their edges would be from 4 till 7 cm. This condition allows your child to sit up straight and not lean forward. The edge of the desk should not rest against the chest. There should be a palm-sized space between the trunk and the edge of the desk.

We hope that these simple rules will help your child create a beautiful posture and be full strength after long lessons.
